This
story is a good example of how the seeds of our greatness find their resting
place early in our lives. What we value, what we hold true and the inate
sense we have of our gifts. As we grow older, life's lessons teach
us to forget what we knew. We then spend the rest of our lives,
longing to do and be what we always knew we were to do and be.

Just an Ordinary Angel
“More
than anything Mommy, when I grow up, I want to be an angel. I don't want
to be a special high fluting angel and I don't want to be the boss angel,
I just want to be an angel…just an ordinary angel.” Her mother said, “well
you could be an angel… but I'm not sure that you can be just an ordinary
angel, for all angels are very special. You see, the message of angels
is that we are not alone…that we are loved and cared for and that we are
special.”
This
was a very confusing answer to the little girl. She knew it was not so,
for she herself was not special…she knew she was just ordinary and would
always be just ordinary. And so she thought ‘maybe there are two types
of angels, special angels who helped special people know they are special
and ordinary angels to help ordinary people know they are ordinary' and
again to her mother she said, “I just want to be an ordinary angel”. Her
mother shook her head and wondered why a little person would even care?
Now
it would not surprise you to know dear one that mother and child were
not alone during this exchange. Hovering gently over their conversation
were their two Guardian Angels, Creckle and Findbul. They marveled how,
even as a child, this special one was so connected to the story of human
existence … the reality of the everyday joys and sorrows humans live,
day in and day out. Creckle and Findbul knew it would be difficult, because
she would forget what she at this moment knew so clearly. It would take
a lifetime of living the human experience for her to truly understand
and once understood to then return to this place of knowing.
“You
know Creckle, this little girl will learn how to put angels in the right
places – it is her gift. She will have the ability to see the gift in
others and draw it out. It will be a long time before she understands
that she is a Seed-Sewer, one who unearths the gifts of others, seeding
their hearts, nurturing the new growth and letting them blossom, so that
they too might begin the cycle with another. She will be unique because
in doing what matters she will touch so many lives…she will give and yet
she will still see herself as ordinary.” Findbul smiled. “It is so interesting
how these humans operate. Some who are so ordinary think themselves so
special while this dear sweet one is so special and will see herself as
ordinary.
The
little girl felt something on her arm…it just brushed ever so lightly,
but it made her feel wonderful. It was as if she were not alone and in
this moment, a moment she would remember years later, she knew that special
or ordinary, we are all angels in our own way…a way that is ours to discover
in our own time.
