Step 2: Wakening the Warrior Within

Why is it that people who experience major setbacks in their life will tell you in later years that those setbacks were the best things that ever happened to them? (see Hope is ). It is as if over time, they came to view the unexpected change as an invitation and an opportunity rather than an intrusion. They were pushed by life and so they had to make a choice whether or not they would land on their feet.

It can be harder when we are not given a push. It means that we have to give ourselves a push and that's a very hard exercise in awareness, vision and choice. Over time, it is easy to get used to a negative situation... it can creep up. It is very difficult to say "enough is enough." A big thing creates a push, whereas with little things, we just adjust and adapt.

Often your career management plan is dictated by the job you have, the promotions you get, or the pink slips you receive. Not many people proactively pursue what they truly want to do or be. Rarely do people have a dream or a vision. I think not having a dream makes it difficult. It makes you feel more of a victim of where you are than a traveler on your own journey in your own story. It is so freeing to have an idea of what you want to be and do - what would be meaningful way to spend your work-life. Maybe it will take some years to get there, but you can conduct your work-life with purpose. You can take courses, and all manner of experiences will be there to enrich your dream. It sure beats unfocussed work-life drudgery.

++++++++++++++++

Have you had an opportunity to swim in a river with a very strong current.? It can be so lovely to get into the current. You don't have to think or swim...the river does it all. However, it wouldn't take too long to realize that if you didn't do something fast, you would be pulled into dangerous unknown waters. The effort to get back might be far more than you could ever have anticipated.

Moral of the story...

Be careful if you give your power over to another. Temporarily it can feel safe and pleasant ... but beware, if 'the other' takes over. In the long run, it is easier to chart your own course than leaving your fate to others. It might feel benign in the beginning but that sense of security can deteriorate quickly...

just be aware and beware!

+++++++++++++

Wakening the Warrior Within encourages individuals to tap into their inner selves and their own resources. Throughout history, in myth and in fact, the world has had its warriors. Many of these individuals, female and male alike, found the circumstances of their lives and the lives of those around them intolerable. Unable to function in the existing dysfunctional system, they chose to take action. Such effort required courage and commitment. It also required that they put their beliefs into action.

Bottomline: these warriors decided that they were not going to let someone else write the script of their life story. They stepped up and out into the unknown to take their story into their own hands.

Stories of the Great Heros and Heroines show us how others have engaged with life. If you wish to do the same, it is important that you have a sense of your own story...for we all do have a story. To take our stand, to move forward inch by inch, to gain the ground we desire...that is what Wakening the Warrior Within is about. Get in touch with your story. It will help you move forward on your journey to Freedom.
