Greetings!

It has been some months since we last communicated. In search of new perspectives for completing my next book, I have just come back from an exciting tour of Northern Spain, France and Edinburgh Scotland. The people and countryside the we passed through, made this trip for me. I find myself a far richer person for the experience. It has shown me how we can all have far richer encounters if we are willing to share in meaningful conversations with one another.

I am delighted to report that I was a guest on "The Good Life Show" hosted by Jesse Dylan on Sirius satellite radio. Off air, Jessie was saying the audience is upwards to 5 million plus. I just blocked that out...too big to get my mind around. I just focused on our conversation and quite enjoyed our time together. Essential Wisdom Story

I had the opportunity of meeting a man recently who had a wonderful story.. I thought you would enjoy reading it.

Spirit is Everything...

Here sat a man who was experiencing some of the worst moments of his work-life. The significance of this was the timing...for he was in the twilight years of his formal business career and it seemed the bottom had fallen out. Why are there so many stories, of those whose personal sky falls in, just when the end is in view?

His story

He had a varied background: a career path blessed by special gifts, incredible talents and an exceptional attitude. Bringing his knowledge and his network with him, he moved from a high octane professional designation, to a less stressful position that for him had many satisfying aspects. After twenty years he was held in very high regard. He was a man who was at the top of his game He had a good sense of his destiny. He had done a good piece of pre-planning for his years after work.

His hobby was painting and he had detailed plans for his future... And then the unbelievable happened. Two years previously through a series of events that had happened around him, he and one other won the worst lottery possible: they were shoved to the side and ultimately ignored by those whom they had once worked with. He went into that nether zone that we can only hope won't happen to us, a zone where the sun falls out of the sky and we wonder if it will ever rise again. He had seriously thought of leaving...‘I don't need meaningless...there are other opportunities out there'.

He and his side kick got a new boss. Lucky for all, this man was a bright man with a good sense of managing the politics of the situation. He also had in place the power people to back him. There was every reason to believe a turn in the road was possible.

And the essential wisdom... so many people today are more than willing to sell their soul to get the pension of their dreams. In the last two years, this man had come to realize that he could easily kill his spirit in his remaining five years of work if he didn't pay attention. Money was important to him, but living life and feeling alive was far more important. Lucky for him, he realizes he has a choice: whether to accept the questionable security of the known or choose to walk the road less traveled, take a risk...and know what it is to be alive.
